Built in 1779, the hotel obtained the very first South African liquor license, and has been in continuous operation for longer than any hotel in the country. When the hotel changed ownership in 2016 we were brought on board to handle its marketing. Being granted the opportunity to help add the next great chapter in the hotel’s long and fascinating history has truly been a privilege.
Initially the Houw Hoek Hotel was called the Houw Hoek Inn, but we felt the word ‘hotel’ was more relatable.
We also refreshed the logo to bring it in line with that of its new sister hotel – the Arniston Spa Hotel.
A hotel – or any accommodation, really – needs a hard working website. For the Houw Hoek Hotel we have developed a multi-purpose website that not only showcases all the delights the hotel has to offer through delicious galleries and informative text, but also functions as the ultimate source of information on all things Houw Hoek.
On the website a visitor can view menus, specials, testimonials, wedding and conference packages, room rates, things to do in the area, and even read up on the rich history of the hotel.
With the advent of fare aggregator websites like Booking.com online bookings have become any hotel’s bread and butter. It takes a complex mix of skills – ranging from photography to impeccable telephone manners – in order to make any property pop on the myriad of aggregators and booking engines out there. Since we have taken over the marketing of Houw Hoek Hotel there has been a marked increase in online bookings.
